Background


Kokrajhar district is situated in the Western part of Assam and Northern side of the river Mighty Brahmaputra. The district is bounded by Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan on the north, Dhubri district on the south, Chirang and Bongaigaon district on the east and State of West Bengal on the west. The district is the gateway to Assam and other North Eastern states by road as well as railways. Kokrajhar district lies roughly between 89˚46 to 90˚ east longitudes and between 26˚19 to 26˚54 north latitudes. Total geographical area of the district is about 3169.22 sq. km, while the population of the district is 886999. Distance of the District Headquarters from the state capital of Guwahati is about 236 km. The Kokrajhar Traditional Dress Making and Embroidery cluster is an age old naturally developed cluster.

In terms of Hard Intervention activities the cluster has already completed (100%) construction of Community Facility Center. The Cluster has also procured and installed the machineries in the CFC. The cluster has also set up raw material bank for the cluster artisans.

AWARENESS & TRUST BUILDING

The success of any project or scheme depends upon the level of awareness among the people and also upon the capacity of Trust Building. In order to bring about necessary motivation and trust building artisans and motivation programmes were conducted in the cluster villages involving cluster artisans.

Social Institution Building

Conductedsocial Institution building programme. The main purpose of the meeting was to interact with artisans for SHG Formation in the presence of Basumati Brahma (Secretary), SadonaMashahary (Treasurer) and Phungbili Brahma, CDE. In the meeting it was discussed that those who have not in SHG they have to form a new group among ten members so that they can obtain the benefit of cluster and develop the SFURTI (Scheme of fund for Regeneration of Traditional Industries) under MSME

DESIGN/ PRODUCT/ SKILL DEVELOPMENT:

Anjali Sukhati SHG Foundation with the support of Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship, Guwahati and EPCH (NER) started 25 days design development programme under SFURTI Scheme from. A master trainer has been engaged for the smooth running of the programme.
